On this google doc I will explain black generational trauma, fear and how it places a toll and how it affects the descendants of the people that went through that horror. Generational trauma played a major role in black African American homes during slavery. That generational trauma ultimately got passed on to generation to generation. During slavery I would say that generational trauma is direct impact. That direct impact could be the first generation or survivors that endured the most pain in the beginning. During slavery black people were forced to do things, they were shackled. With no thought of hope or freedom. It was trauma for them. And that trauma continuously got passed on to generation to generation. I also think that fear plays a major role in this as well. In the book, Kindred, the character Alice, a slave, commits suicide because of all the trauma, free and pain she has endured while being a slave. Generational trauma can be passed on also through experience, memories and even material things. During slavery African American people worked on plantations doing many things. After slavery black people were still treated unfairly, disrespected, and mistreated.  Many if not all were forced to still work for white people to make some type of living. So many of the same generations worked for the same white person for years. Still enduring the pain and trauma, basically still a slave. The south somewhat seemed to have created this “tradition” that only the south understands. In the story we read in class a, A Different Drummer, the black people that live in Sutton, the small town, seems to be stuck, lost, in fear, scared to act. Tucker, the character from the story breaks away from his family’s generational trauma. Tucker buys land the land that his ancestors have worked on for years and year After he buys the land, he destroys it and at that point he ceases his family generational trauma and fear. Tuckers family generational fear, pain and horror made him realize that it was time for a change within is family and he knew that change could start with h
