  • The song talks about race and color, how Malcolm X and martin luther king jr were powerful, and how there has to be a change and they are done being silent. “I see a colorful future where skin doesn't define any human” I think that  that means that being black is not a bad thing and it doesn’t define who you are.


DNA by Kendrick Lamar 

  • Kendrick explores and celebrates his culture and what it is like being black. D.N.A. stands for “Dead Nigger Association”


Rosa Parks by Outkast

  • It talks about black people overcoming obstacles. After the song came out Rosa Parks sued them because she was saying that they were exploiting her image and later they were just saying that risa parks would make America a better place for all races.


Lightning by Orion Sum

  • After a run-in with the police where they had the George Floyd protest Orion writes a song discussing racial justice and equality.


Stand Up by Cynthia Erivo

  • The song talks about how they are going to stand up for her people and get them away from the  and slavery which is contributed to Harriet Tubman and how they are going to get freedom and go on a  journey where they are going to fight till they die than be held captive based off their skin color.


Blue Lights by Jorja Smith

  • She wants  to demonstrate that black people an exposed to  false and prejudiced things in the world., I wanted to photograph men and boys who went through the stereotypes the world has painted for them from different backgrounds engaging in common hobbies.


Temptation by Joey Bada$$

  • The attitude of many Black people who must battle for their equality while simultaneously trying to live their own lives is captured in the song "Temptation." I think that you have to keep a certain mindset to they will not see you as weak and that in your eyes that you are equal even if you are black no matter what other people might say.


Q.U.E.E.N. by Janelle Monae ft. Erykah Badu

  • Janelle talks about she is not sorry for being black and she does not care about breaking the rules.


Change by J. Cole

  •  "Change" talks about the pretty and the ugly and the pain of the Black experience. It shows how from the pain something beautiful came out through the struggle and motivation and it makes you strong. It's about how you can stay from inside the home to make a better future for your kids


Hold on by Sounds of Blackness

  • This means to mean to me that you do not have to worry and through all the obstacles that you may stumble upon you will be alright. The song says don't give up just be strong and that change is coming can go along with how black people did not get the justice that they deserved but some are getting a change.


Be Free By J.Cole

  • He talks about how every time he goes outside he sees black people being killed by the police.


Black Rage by Lauryn Hill

The song contributes to Micheal Brown who was killed by a white man and the song "Black Rage" is used to illustrate the injustices and problems that Black Americans must deal with as well as the sorrow and suffering brought on by these killings.


Hands Up by Victor Staples

  • He says that being black is all the more reason why white cops would arrest you.
